India–UK CETAIn force since 15 July 2026

Qualifying Indian cotton towels, bed linen and bathrobes now land in the UK at 0% duty.

Against 12% MFN on HS 6302 for non-FTA origins.

Manchester is the strongest regional hospitality market in the United Kingdom and the one with the cleanest logistics into India. Roughly 2,300 rooms sit in the development pipeline against annual supply growth near 3.6%, and demand is driven by a mix — matchday traffic at Old Trafford and the Etihad, a dense conference and awards calendar, and the airport corridor. It is also the home of the North West's linen trade: Richard Haworth has supplied hospitality from Manchester since 1876, and regional linen-hire operators run out of Manchester and Merseyside. Adalwin Global ships into Liverpool, half an hour away.

Why Manchester buys

What drives the programme here.

The shortest port-to-city leg in the country

Liverpool is a direct call, about thirty minutes from Manchester. Every other major UK city routes through Felixstowe or Southampton with two to four hours of haulage behind it. On a full container of terry that difference is real money per delivery, and it shortens the tail between vessel discharge and linen on the floor.

Growth, not just size

Around 2,300 rooms are in the pipeline with supply growth near 3.6% annually — ahead of the UK average, alongside Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Belfast. New properties specify from scratch rather than reordering an incumbent programme, which is the moment a new supplier can actually be adopted.

Event-driven turnover

Matchday demand at Old Trafford and the Etihad, the awards and conference calendar, and multi-day tech and gaming events produce sharp occupancy peaks. Properties buying against that pattern hold deeper par stock and replace on wash-cycle degradation rather than a calendar, which favours durability specification over hand-feel.

An established linen trade to supply

Richard Haworth has traded hospitality linen from Manchester since 1876 and holds a Royal Warrant; regional hire operators cover Manchester and Merseyside. These are distributors and laundries, not end properties — they buy in volume, reorder on a cycle, and care about shade consistency batch-on-batch far more than a single hotel does.

Compliance ceiling

What Manchester buyers audit.

  • Sedex SMETA 4-pillar (Primark / Tesco / M&S all require)
  • BRC Global Standard for some retail buyers
  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100
  • Modern Slavery Act statement on supplier records
  • UK REACH — hazardous-substance limits (azo dyes, formaldehyde, NPEs, heavy metals), HSE-enforced
  • Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Composition) Regulations 2012 — English-language fibre-composition label

Manchester buyer questions

Asked before every first order.

What is the import duty on hotel linen shipped from India to Manchester?
Zero on qualifying cotton made-ups. The India–UK CETA has been in force since 15 July 2026 and takes the UK's 12% MFN duty on HS 6302 lines — terry towels and bed, bath and toilet linen — to zero for goods meeting its origin rules. Cotton bathrobes under HS 6207 and 6208 move the same way, and cotton floor mats under HS 5702 go from roughly 8% to zero. Note that this comes from CETA specifically: India was graduated out of UK DCTS textile preferences on 1 January 2026, so any supplier still citing DCTS as the basis for duty-free entry is quoting a scheme that no longer applies to Indian origin.
Which port should linen for Manchester arrive at?
Liverpool, on west-coast rotations. It is a direct call and roughly thirty minutes by road into Manchester — the shortest port-to-city leg available anywhere in the UK for this trade. Felixstowe works as an east-coast alternative but adds about four hours of haulage. The routing is chosen per programme against sailing schedules and your delivery window.
How long does shipping take from India to Manchester?
Around 20 to 25 days on the water FOB JNPT or Mundra via Suez, plus the road leg from the arrival terminal — about half an hour from Liverpool, roughly four hours from Felixstowe. Programme lead time from approved sample to vessel is quoted separately against the specification and volume.
Do you supply distributors and commercial laundries, or only hotels?
Both, and the specification differs. Distributors and linen-hire operators buy on shade consistency across reorders and on wash-cycle durability, because a piece that fades or thins early is a replacement cost carried on their books rather than the property's. Buyer-spec colour is locked to Pantone at sample stage and reorders match the master shade card batch-on-batch. Hotel groups buying to a brand standard are quoted against that standard instead.
