London holds over 140,000 hotel rooms — by a wide margin the largest concentration in the United Kingdom, and the head-office address for most of the groups buying nationally. Procurement here splits three ways: chain and boutique hotel groups running brand-standard programmes, serviced-apartment and short-let operators buying on turnover rather than guest-experience logic, and the linen-hire companies supplying both. Adalwin Global routes all three out of the same mill network, under one Adalwin Commerce LLP counterparty.

Why London buys

What drives the programme here.

Group procurement is headquartered here

Whitbread, IHG, Marriott UK and the major boutique groups run UK buying out of London offices. A programme approved here typically lands across the estate rather than one property, so specification and audit documentation carry more weight than unit price.

Short-let and serviced apartments

Operators running managed portfolios — Airlinen and its peers service London plus seven other cities — buy on wash-cycle durability and replacement cadence, not hand-feel. That is a different specification conversation from a five-star property, and it favours mid-weight terry with locked shade standards across reorders.

The compliance ceiling is set by retail

London retail buyers — M&S, John Lewis, Next, Primark — hold the highest audit bar in the market, and hospitality procurement has largely inherited it. Sedex SMETA 4-pillar, UK REACH substance limits and English-language fibre-composition labelling under the 2012 Regulations are table stakes rather than differentiators.

Compliance ceiling

What London buyers audit.

  • Sedex SMETA 4-pillar (Primark / Tesco / M&S all require)
  • BRC Global Standard for some retail buyers
  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100
  • Modern Slavery Act statement on supplier records
  • UK REACH — hazardous-substance limits (azo dyes, formaldehyde, NPEs, heavy metals), HSE-enforced
  • Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Composition) Regulations 2012 — English-language fibre-composition label

London buyer questions

Asked before every first order.

What is the import duty on hotel linen shipped from India to London?
Zero on qualifying cotton made-ups. Under the India–UK CETA, in force since 15 July 2026, the UK's 12% MFN duty on HS 6302 lines — terry towels and bed, bath and toilet linen — falls to zero for goods meeting the agreement's origin rules. Cotton bathrobes under HS 6207 and 6208 move the same way, and cotton floor mats under HS 5702 go from roughly 8% to zero. Origin is met on a change-of-tariff-heading plus value-content basis, with exporter self-certification through DGFT registration.
How long does shipping take from India to London?
Around 20 to 25 days on the water FOB JNPT or Mundra, routing Suez to the English Channel, plus the road leg from the arrival terminal. London Gateway on the Thames is the shortest road connection at roughly an hour; Felixstowe adds about two hours, Southampton about ninety minutes. Programme lead time from approved sample to vessel runs separately and is quoted per specification.
What certifications do London hotel buyers expect?
Sedex SMETA 4-pillar is the common denominator across the major groups and is required outright by Primark, Tesco and M&S on the retail side. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is expected on skin-contact categories. UK REACH substance limits apply to azo dyes, formaldehyde, NPEs and heavy metals, and every piece must carry an English-language fibre-composition label under the Textile Products Regulations 2012. Adalwin Global routes programmes to SMETA-certified units on request and publishes which credentials are held directly versus across the supplier network.
What is the minimum order for a London property or group?
500 pieces per SKU on bath towels, bed linen and bath mats; 300 pieces per SKU or size on bathrobes, where combined sizes across one model count toward the minimum. Mixed-size containers are possible on multi-SKU programmes, which is generally how boutique groups and short-let operators reach a workable container without over-ordering a single line.
